It's been a while since this game has come out, buy hey let's do a review. Sleeping Dogs a game created by Square Enix and United Front Games and released on August 14, 2012. The game is an action-adventure game allowing you to explore anywhere you want. You play as undercover officer Wei Shen who after being arrested in a drug bust must now infiltrate the Sun-On-Yee Triad organization of Hong Kong and bring them down, but things later complicate as the undercover job and gang business start to intensify.
The major theme of this game is Action-Adventure and detective work. Most of the missions revolve getting to a single person or people, however the occasional mission may have you racing or sabotage of rival gang operations. You can go around the city and find somebody being mugged or might just happen to stumble across a rival gang meetup in which you will have to fight your way through it with fists or guns.
You start off owning a small room above a restaurant but later in the story earn a luxury penthouse which adds to the feel of progression instead of being in one spot the whole game. The cars you can drive range from heavy bank trucks to speedy exotic cars.My opinion, and this may be biased, but I think the game was amazing. The fighting mechanics were balanced with some quick time events and some amount of button mashing. The exploration is vast considering how small the island is you can explore every alleyway and find some...interesting things. You start off owning a small room above a restaurant but later in the story earn a luxury penthouse which adds to the feel of progression instead of being in one spot the whole game. The cars you can drive range from heavy bank trucks to speedy exotic cars which really appeals to me since i really like cars. Some moments were saddening like when Wei finds one of his friends dead at the wedding only to fight his way out killing every member of the 18k located in the wedding chapel. You later find Uncle Po (no relation to Wei) bleeding and need to get him to safety. The game was challenging at times. Especially in gunfights since you're so used to fighting close quarters that you forget that guns are even a thing. For those who have played it, the game reminds me of GTA 4 because of its worldliness.
Overall i would recommend this game to those who like action games located in a REAL foreign environment, and also to those who enjoy some drama in their games.
