― John Green, The Fault in Our Stars
The relationship between these two characters is unique because of two key factors. One is the fact that Aunt Polly is Tom's aunt but more so is the reason she has to take care of him is because her sister, who was Tom's mother, died. Aunt Polly really does love Tom but the things he does causes her to get mad. She is a caring person who knows discipline. Aunt tries to give Tom a proper education but he only seems to get away from all that.
Tom is and adventurous kid so you probably know where this is going. When Tom gets into trouble Aunt Polly will figure out but he will either tell her or try to keep it a secret. Tom also gets himself into a lot of trouble with work and whatnot and Aunt is the only person who seems to discipline him, and try to make him a better person instead of a street rat.
